EDUCATION THROUGH MUSIC - Tuesday, 1/26/2010 11:38 AM

Education Through Music teamed up with Music Unites and Grammy Award winning violin sensation Joshua Bell, on Monday, January 25th, to celebrate "At Home with friends," an intimate cocktail reception with hors d'oeuvres prepared by award wining chef, Brian Lewis (Bedford Post Inn).  The event, which featured a performance by the acclaimed Joshua Bell, also took place at his New York Residence.

The evening was held to benefit Education Through Music, which makes music education available to thousands of at-risk children who would otherwise have limited or no access to the arts in school. Now more than ever, as schools are being shut down and cut backs are more the norm then the exception, programs dealing with the arts are the first to go, and once they are eliminated it is increasingly difficult to get them back. The educational benefits of music as part of the curriculum as way to supplement a child's ability to learn and retain information are undeniable, and isn't something that needs to be preserved for the growth of the next generation.

The evening was sponsored by Music Unites, Newman's Own Foundation, Far Niente Winery, Twenty 2 Vodka, Godiva Chocolatier, and the Bedford Post Inn. Guests in attendance were Richie Rich, Katherine Dankholer, Emily Suskind, Michelle Edgar, Ron Glickman, Yuki Oakley, Lottie Oakley, Ed Schroeder and Jade Yoon.
