Rachel Roy was my Valentine this year, not only because she is smart and beautiful but also because she has a really big heart. Cleopatra, the queen of the Nile, symbolically carried Roy’s fall/winter 2010 collection; Roy went to North Africa in her mind and unveiled a collection of moody, deep river hues cut with a sense of mystery and exoticism. If ever there were a strong woman who was Cleopatra in another life, it would be Roy. The runway was dabbled with sandalwood oil to complete the mood — talk about attention to detail.

Heart Truth’s Red Dress Collection

I got a “behind the seams” look at Heart Truth's Red Dress Collection, one of the big charity fashion shows during Fashion Week. Every year, the Red Dress Collection highlights heart disease, long thought of as mostly a men’s disease, by dressing up beautiful women in red dresses and having them walk the runway.

The scene was buzzing at the Steven Kasher Gallery for the opening of two photography shows, “Cynthia MacAdams: Feminist Portraits, 1974–1977” and “Timothy Greenfield-Sanders: Supermodels of the 70s and 80s.” It was girl power all around — both photographers show images that are striking for their candid strength and realness in our current polished world.
